How funny is it when often people get annoyed when we ask if the meat is halal or not. As in the slaughter method. Specially in the West. They know not the significance. But I wonder why is it that even people who are educated and have dug deeper and deeper into books of Biology do not understand!? I have seen several halal slaughters myself and one will be amazed how calm the animal remains during the procedure. And how interesting is the science behind it, the halal slaughter methods. The knife used for the procedure, so sharp that one may not realize the pain if they were to mistakenly cut themselves. The person carrying out the slaughter shall only cut the throat, the windpipe and major blood vessels in the region like the jugular vein. One must avoid cutting spinal cord to prevent damage to nerves controlling the pumping of the heart so as prevent chances of a cardiac arrest. It also ensure that the heart keeps pumping and in the process draining away the bacteria filled blood out through cut-open major vessel in the neck area. The intact nervous system of the animal sees the low volume of blood in the neck region and instruct the muscles in the body to contract and pass on blood to the open neck area, further cleaning the meat off the blood. The movements of the animal which one see are the signs of these contractions and not pain. With oxygenated blood in its brain depleting, with no new supply, the animal slowly goes into unconsciousness and sleep. Also the blood supply to the nerve relaying pain is cut off, thus the animals feels no pain. In slaughter methods like guillotines, i.e. cutting entire heard off in one shot, large amounts of blood remains in the animals body and thus the bacteria. The cutting of the spinal cord also increases chances of the animal suffering from cardiac arrest and thus more stagnation of blood. Stunning the animal using electricity induces intense pain and suffering on the animal. The blood here too remains stagnant inside the body. And when they argue stunning is humane....just look at the video below. You literally SEE 600 VOLTS of electricity going through that animal in its eyes! And that scream....they call that humane! The video is quiet graphic, at least for me.
