How important is it to make a living loving art form out of the act of giving? Glen, what do you think about the concept that ‘giving is an art?’ (An inquiry from a reader of my book and blog.) Response: Humbly and respectfully, I believe that the notion of “giving is an art” is so very much about true appreciation/gratitude. It is living life as a loving, selfless, and altruistic art…answering to the impeccable notion that the greatest of responsibilities is in making the world a better place. It is a resplendently healthful outlook which promotes greater and greater harmony between Heaven and Earth (accordingly in theory, through true effort we can become more and more healthful conduits between Heaven can Earth). Through deeper and deeper levels of objective insight, it is deciding how beautiful the masterpiece of one’s life will be. At a truly substantive level, giving as an art is consistent with the notion of Acting Without Acting, i.e., doing the right thing for the right sake…without the need for selfish recognition or hidden agendas. In particular, when giving in this benevolent, yet immaculately non-codependent demeanor, it is in a beautiful spirit of deeply enjoying the living loving story of one’s life (vs. just being a pawn in the story of one’s life). It is true appreciation of the miracle of the moment…on a bright path of heart - paved with dignity, decency, goodness, and grace. Does it get better than that on this Earth? Accordingly, yes it does…as one allows oneself to embrace one of the most wonderful of gifts that one can allow ONESELF, e.g., a sparkling spine-tingling/shivering awareness that one can appreciatively answer to the notion that there is ALWAYS room for improvement, vs. getting stuck for long on stagnant plateaus. It is true health through true responsibility. It is a glimpse of Heaven. – Dr. Glen Hepker
