How important is local Saudi Experience for Civil Engineers? (true story) My late father is a civil engineer, he was consulted on a concrete problem associated with circular concrete columns at the Dammam Amir office building cracking at their center at many locations along the concrete columns only one year after construction. Many international experts where consulted without any results, calling on my fathers local expertise. My late father looked to the columns and submitted this report: When the concrete laborers where having their food which was basically dates at that time they throws the date seeds on the sand where they are sitting while eating. The same sand was used in the concrete being mixed at the site. The seeds received moisture and expanded after one year and resulted in cracking the concrete columns. (end of story)
