How is music more of an art than comedy? The modern era for black entertainment does NOT EXIST without the contributions of THREE COMEDIANS: Richard Pryor (and all the black & blue comics who whole generations listened to on classic comedy ALBUMS); Bill Cosby, who SAVED the sitcom, which gave rise to the Oscar nominated Will Smith/Fresh Prince, Oscar winning Jamie Foxx, Oscar winning MoNique; and Eddie Murphy - Right as hip-hop breaks free of New York, a whole country gets familiar with a black guy saying off-the-wall ish and you dont think that paves a way for two generations to become millionaires saying off-the wall ish but set to a beat?! Of his art, Kanye West says: “It’s not a joke, it’s something that should be treated with respect, because we’re all in this together. But of Jay Pharoahs art, Kanye, it is *written* (cant believe everything you read) that Kanye, has proclaimed: “I called Jay Pharaoh right after the MTV awards, ‘Ye told the crowd, disapproving of the Saturday Night Live comedian’s impersonation of him at the August 24 award show. Pharaoh told jokes about West’s wedding to Kim Kardashian, their Bound 2 video and their daughter North West. Yeezy says that he isn’t a joke and shouldn’t be spoofed, especially by a black comedian. I’m not making it a black or white thing right now, but I’m telling you if you see a black guy anywhere he had to work 12 times as hard, excuse me, he continued. So we ain’t gonna have no black comedians going up on stage spoofing the people that’s working hard to open doors, not only for black people, but any creatives. JOKES are ART. COMICS are CREATIVES. BLACK COMEDIANS opened the DOORS youre walking through right now. We ARE all in this together - comics, too. If Richard Pryor can joke about SETTING HIMSELF on FIRE - and for those who are less familiar with comic history - if Katt Williams can joke about being committed to a MENTAL INSTITUTION - you can take some ribbing about... well, your whole public life and persona.
