How long should I prep for a physique competition? The longer you prep the better. This is the real difference between seasoned athletes and novices. The off-season/gains-season is the most important time of your contest prep. The shape you get during the gains-season will ultimately determine how much food youll eat during the cutting phase, how long this will last and really how youll end up on stage. The reality is your prep should start the minute you decide to do a show, not 16 weeks or 12 weeks out, when you decide to stop eating pizza and decide you better start sticking to a diet. A good off-season between shows for me is usually around 3-4 months followed by at least as long a cutting phase. The fact is Im always on a diet its always beast mode.
