How many of you fine folks can remember back in the day when we had the ol country stores and company stores with the glass front meat case. You walk in and ask for 3 pork chops and point out the ones you wanted, all the cheeses and lunch meats lined up[ and you told the man how many slices you wanted and how thick you wanted them. I can remember kids coming into the store with a note from their mom saying they wanted 2 slices of spiced ham and you know how thick, and usually you did. Pepperoni sticks laying there, you go in and tell the man give me about this much holding up your thumb and your finger and the man cut it for you. rap everything in brown wrapping paper and tie it with a string and send you on your merry way. I know you can get some of this done at the delis now but just not the same and doesnt have that good smell the old stores had. My neighbor brought this up as we were having a cold one yesterday and I just got to pondering on it.
