How many of you remember what happened 39 years ago today, and also 39 years ago tomorrow? On this date in 1974, Richard Nixon announced from the East Room of the White House, that he "would resign the presidency at noon tomorrow, and Vice President Ford would be sworn in as President in this office" By the way the calendar falls in 2013 just like it was 1974. Being 21 years old at the time I very distinctly remember the whole thing. Before the summer of 1972, I wanted to be a public servant, however Watergate and all the crap that came along with it changed my mind. In light of how things have turned out ever since then, it is a good thing that I gave up on being a career politician and public servant. I remember well that people who did that were looked up to and admired. but that is no longer the case and has not been for quite a long time. The really sad thing is, that I think I may have had some fun doing that, and I really believe I would have done well with it, except for the fact that I would not have lied to people.
