How many of you, the genuine Tawau folks, who remember the good old days of soccer tournaments at its best during the hey day where Tv was virtually unheard of. One of the main attractions those days was none other than football competitions featuring teams like PKMT, Police Force, Abaca or BAL, Black Horse, Port Authority Tawau, Wallace Bay or NBT, JKR and few more of course. During the final usually the whole Town padang parameter was covered with gunny sacks stitched end-to-end and one need to buy tickets to enter. The best view was from the Tawau Recreation Club upper floor but it was mostly meant for club members and other well known people. For us kids we usually tried our luck of going in unnoticed by the guards but we were mostly unsuccessful although some managed to get in via friends or relatives. Whatever it was, it was really fun and exciting to be with the huge crowds as it happened twice or three times a year if I could remember. The well known local star players and the time includes Jaman - deadly striker, Endel - skillful striker and Periera - tough defender both from BAL, Cikgu Bidin - tough defender of PKMT, Adam Lee from Tawau Port and many more. Those were the good old days, full of excitement ... really missed the time. Ive included photos of the Sabah Youth Soccer Tournament held in Tawau - Nov 1969... to share with you guys and DT fans. Three teams competed in the Finals after the residencys preliminary rounds and they were KK which includes King James Wong as the goal keeper, Tawau and Keningau. I hope this will bring back or recap good nostalgic memories to the old town folks of Tawau. Have a fantastic day ......
