How many times have you heard "scholars" state that if you have received any interest on a bank account, give it away to charity?? Unlawfully Earned Money is like Wine. The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “If a man earns by sinful acts and gives it in charity or an act of kindness or spends it in the way of Allah, Allah will throw him into Hell after collecting everything.” [Ihya Ulum Id-Din by Imam Ghazali] Whatever a person spends to take care of another, in charity, or in the Path of Allah, Allah is capable of taking care of himself. The person does not oblige Allah by so doing. Whatever he gave came to him from Allah. A charitable person only pleases Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) if he performs charity for the sake of Allah (subhana wa ta’ala). If a person performs charity to please Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) with it, he should know that Allah is not pleased with ill-gotten money. Allah is not pleased with our first violating Allah’s prescribed laws to earn money and then spending some of that money in causes delineated by Him. Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) will collect everything because when all people die only Allah will be left to inherit everything. Thus, everything returns to Allah (subhana wa ta’ala). Sufyan at-Thawri said: “He who spends in charity out of unlawful wealth is like the person who washes impure clothes with wine. Impure things cannot be purified except with water and so there is no expiation of sins without lawful things.” [Ihya Ulum Id-Din] #saif
