How much is it worth to mortgage our future: The BEDC struggle - TopicsExpress

How much is it worth to mortgage our future: The BEDC struggle has made me to understand the psyche of an average Nigerian, when the Edo State Civil Society Organizations took up the issue of fixed charge of N750 by the BEDC, it was an opportunity for the group to betray the people and take their share of the national cake as it has been over the years, when you see human rights activists claiming to be fighting for the people but are just looking for an opportunity to enrich themselves, this my concern is coming now due to the indifferent attitude put up by some media practitioners while the protest was on, I have received so many calls due to my constant updates online for the five days protest, my updates attracts a minimum of 5 million readers all over the world, their concern has been on thing, why is the media not giving such an issue that affects everybody the desired support by ensuring that it becomes a major news item both on electronic and print media, this also puzzled me as well but was unable to give a convincing response to the question. The truth be told, journalism as it is in this contemporary time has deviated drastically from how it was during the time of Dele Giwa of blessed memory, we remember him today and pay tribute to him due to his selfless service to the nation in ensuring the truth remain nothing but the truth, that the interest of the people must supersedes that of the ruling class or the capitalists but what we see today is a far cry from then, we have seen stories killed and buried because an influential person is involved or such a person has a lot to part away with, for instance, recently, the go and die widow saga, when that encounter occurred, there were pressmen with the governors entourage who recorded it but it never saw the light of the day, it only surfaced on the Internet after two weeks of the incidence, another one was when some touts attacked leaders of NLC, it was not reported in any of the print media next day, the BEDC protest that lasted for five days with the leadership of the Edo State House Assembly marched with the protesters came out scantly in the news, the most recent is the ghastly motor accident between God is Good motors and that of Dangotes truck along Lagos/Benin Expressway that claimed many lives were suspected to have been silenced. We can not continue like this if we actually want the change we desire in this country of ours, it will be morally wrong and unpatriotic to see something going wrong and I refuse to contribute my quota, I have no other country to call mine except Nigeria hence I must do all within my power to ensure I do my part for my sake and the sake of my children. The question still remains: How much is it worth to mortgage our future
