How much say do you have in your district? I will say I have have helped with a lot of things in my district. In order that he addressed the topics... 1. The teachers do vote on which textbook we go with, but we never see the end result so who knows if they purchase what we voted for... 2. We dont have a say in the building staff development meetings, but I do help with the science and math district wide development meetings and I do have some say in what happens. 3. Curriculum: Well, this year we do get to choose our own curriculum (which can be a good thing, but Ive found that Im spending all my time making things because I cant find anything good out there and there is no way to use the math textbook (5th) with the way our pacing is done-see below) Duration of time on skills: Our district did ask teachers to help with the pacing. I helped with the 6th grade math, science and social studies pacing. The first quarter was given to us with no teacher input, but I was told we can revamp it before next school year. Remediation: We have what we call Success Time where we remediate skills that students didnt master. At my building, it is 30 mins 4x a week. We also just started this year something called Corrective Instruction. We look at the results of the Acuity test we took right before break and we spend a week working on skills the whole class didnt master and it is worked right into the pacing - no new curriculum is taught. Ill have to let you know how that goes after we get back from break. 4. Publishers homework: If I use the textbook (mainly 6th grade), then I will use the publishers homework. Otherwise it is something I made, found on the internet, or something from TpT. 5. District Budget: Our new Super found some extra $$, what is being done with it ???? 6. Disruptive students: Our principal is pretty good about getting disruptive students out of the room. I think that is a building by building thing... 7.
