How the fallout of media hysteria and breed misidentification - TopicsExpress

How the fallout of media hysteria and breed misidentification affects us in the real world: Our friend Ken Foster, founder and president of the Sula Foundation, reports that he was walking with the excellent former rescue, Rooney - a fine example of Dog if there ever was one, friendly to dogs and people, well-trained and socialized, all the good stuff - in the Quarter today. Its been quite a while since Ive had people shout foul things at me or gasp and run away because of the shape of the dog on the end of my leash, reports Ken. The high point for Ken & Rooney was some bonehead yelling, Dont you read the news? A girl was killed by a dog like that! Of course the dog who made the news WAS NOT A PIT BULL, let alone a 130 lb. Pit Bull as reported by a breathless press. There are no 130 lb. Pit Bulls. But until the next shiny key chain of hysteria is dangled in front of the eyes of the credulous public, Pits and Pit Bull owners will have to suffer such indignities as a result of such reckless behavior on the part of the press. Many years ago, after Diane Whipple was killed by two Cane Presarios in San Francisco, the ad hoc dog park in my neighborhood was raided by the SFPD who threw everybody, including me and my 3 month old Labrador Retriever Molly out into the street and locked the gate behind us. There were no unsocialized, intact Cane Presarios whod been bred and raised by Aryan Brotherhood prisoners and their factotums in our park, of course, but since when does reason prevail?
