How to Experience Gods Love “Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. John 10:17. This statement by Jesus can be misunderstood to mean that Gods love for Jesus was dependent on what He did, that God loved Him because He laid down His life. Even before the foundation of the world, God loved Jesus. When Jesus agreed to lay down His life for the sheep, which was a command He received from the Father (Jn. 10:18), God expressed His love towards Him (Jesus) more. His love did not increase for His Son, but the expression of His love towards Him increased, and Jesus experienced it. Picture a father who dearly loves his son. One day the son comes home and tells the father he has been deeply offended by a friend, and wanted to revenge. As he was thinking of revenge he remembered the admonition by his father to always forgive, and the son not only forgave the friend, but also bought him lunch. The fathers heart will be melted by the action of the son, and he will probably find himself telling the son, I love you and I am proud of you, out of the heart. His love for the son did not increase, but was expressed and made manifest. The son provoked it. Gods love for us is unconditional, meaning it does not increase based on our actions. He loves us regardless of what we do. Yet, we can experience His love when we obey His Word, and His love for us will be made manifest. You have the choice whether to experience Gods unconditional love, or not to. This is why He says we draw near to Him, and He will draw near to us (Jas. 4:8). This again does not mean that He moves when we move; it means that when we draw near to Him, we will experience His presence, and it will be made manifest to us. Every time God tells you to do something, and you dont, you are blocking yourself from experiencing His love for you. When you do it, you become sensitive to His love for you, as whoever you are attentive to you become sensitive to, and whoever you ignore you become hardened to. I remember one day I was meditating on Gods Word while cooking and He whispered the words I love you son to me. Words cannot express how this made me feel. An experience of Gods love will literally blow your mind. Gods love for you should not just be information you know; it should be a revelation, and you should have experiential knowledge of it. This is why Paul prayed and said, That you may have the power and be strong to apprehend and grasp with all the saints [Gods devoted people, the experience of that love] what is the breadth and length and height and depth [of it]; [That you may really come] to know [practically, through experience for yourselves] the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge [without experience]; that you may be filled [through all your being] unto all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself]! Eph. 3:18-19 (AMP). The experiential knowledge of the love of Christ makes your whole being wholly filled and flooded with God Himself, as God is love. It does not come automatically, but to those who will draw near to God through obedience to what He tells them to do, and spend time with Him, in His Word and prayer. Since He is love, when you hang around Him, you will experience love. Purpose to always enjoy and experience Gods unconditional love, by always walking in obedience to what He tells you to do, spending time with Him in prayer, and in the Word. “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. John 15:9-11. Blessings.
