Pretty simple lyrics. Nothing life changing here. And I quickly found myself singing along--- full out. And I can hear you thinking Has she run out of ideas on how to get more clients? Its only day 13! There are 17 more days to go. What gives, Linda? This DOES have to do with finding clients. Wait for it. Its inevitable. The first time I do a hypnosis demonstration in front of my students at least one person in every class contact me afterwards and says, I dont know if Im going to be able to do this., Im not going to be able to do what you do First off, they forgetting that they are seeing the product of 14 years worth of practice and are comparing it to the few days worth of experience they have at that point. Totally unfair comparison! But, secondly, they are also forgetting that we are all unique and how we are going to work is unique. I can teach my students protocols and give them tips and tell them what to do and what not to do---but each person is going to find their inner hypnotist and add their own flare and style. I certainly hope that 14 years down the road if I had the privilege to see one of my grads in action that they would NOT be doing an exact replica of what I showed them in class in that very first demo. How boring would THAT be? How uncreative? The song speaks of not being a silicone Barbie doll, it speaks of embracing your big ol booty and realizing that you are perfect form bottom to top! And finding YOUR style, bringing your own flare and your own uniqueness to your practice is what will draw clients to you. In private practice, the client is really buying a relationship with YOU! So, show who you are! Dont try to model your teacher, your mentor, the therapist down the hall who seems to be so successful. Embrace your talents, your quirks, your style. Learn the rules. Then break them. And if you ever need a reminder listen to the song below...cranked up super loud.
