How to Talk to Kids - when NO doesnt seem to be enough I have no problem explaining my reasoning behind a decision. I have no problem hearing what might be flawed in my thinking (once in a while I might be wrong... WHAT?!?!) That said sometimes I just need to say no and have that be enough. For kids that are used to being a part of the discussion that can be hard to accept. Heres how I handle it... Do you think I am fair in my decisions? Do you feel like I respect your opinion? Do I give you the freedom to make choices? Then can you trust that this time the answer I have given you is fair and respectful even if you dont completely understand how? This works almost every time. I use it very sparingly and save it for those times when I know the reason wont satisfy them. How do you handle repeated questions about a decision that will not change?
