How to hold a Bowling ball - 1 Pick up the bowling ball with both hands. Turn the ball so that the holes are on top. Observe the positioning of the holes. Note that two holes are closer together, and the third hole is further away. 2 Hold the ball, holes up, in the up-turned palm of your non-dominant hand and rest the ball against your abdomen. 3 Put the palm of your dominant hand over the holes, placing your two middle fingers (the ring and longest fingers) into the holes that are closest together. Put your thumb into the hole that is further from the other two holes. This means that your index finger and little finger remain on the surface of the ball. 4 Grip the ball using the dominant thumb and two middle fingers that are in the three holes by pinching the two fingers toward the thumb. 5 Hold the weight of the ball in the non-dominant, up-turned palm, with fingers of the dominant hand remaining in the holes. Keep your elbows in close to your body and lift the ball to just beneath your chin. Look down the bowling alley, aligning the ball with the front, center bowling pin at the end of the alley.
