How to keep your desk chair from killing you :) There have been many years where I spend a whole lot of time at my desk. Or a table. Sometimes in meetings, lots of time in front of a computer. On top of it, Im one of those people with pretty good concentration, so I could keep going for hours at a time, just sitting and getting into things. If I had followed my own advice about getting up and moving, I probably would have been just fine! But years of sitting still weakened my back, to the point where a simple everyday piggy-back race (!) lead to a severely ruptured disc. For weeks I was stuck lying on my side. I was told surgery was required, because the displacement was too pronounced to heal on its own. I believe we are each our own best caregivers - that our bodies can accomplish pretty much everything we ever need, if we can clear the path and provide some support. When I was lying there barely able to move, there were a few times when I wondered if I was off-track here. But bit by bit, we got my body moving again. Inch by inch, we created the conditions my body needed to bring itself back into line, and keep things there. The pain is gone now, and some recent mountain excursions high up on the border between France and Italy have gone well. My back and leg work just fine! We cant always avoid the doctor. But theres always a whole lot we can do, to support our bodies in doing what they do, which is some pretty amazing stuff. Heres a bit more on MindBodyGreen about how to prevent your desk chair from trying to kill you (!), and keep your back (shoulders, neck) working happily and feeling great. mindbodygreen/0-15239/3-easy-steps-to-keep-your-office-chair-from-killing-you-video.html
