How to keep your privacy while browsing online. Part 2: Intermediate. If you read part one and installed Ghostery (or Do Not Track Me) browser add-on, you will have seen by now just how much information is being gathered on just about every web page you visit. To really get free from big brother, you may have to dump Google. Everything you type into a Google search is recorded (and probably fed to the NSA directly, or intercepted by the NSA covertly). Step 1. Start using a secure search engine that doesnt record your entries. A really good one that Ive found is Ixquick. While it may not have the depth of material Google has, use this as a first step. You can either just bookmark it and do your searching there, or make it your default search engine (see part 1 of this series). I now have it as my default, and have a bookmark to Google as a backup if I need it. Step 2. Consider dropping your current browser, and install Iron (from SRWare). Iron is based on Chromium (an open source version of Chrome) with all the reporting features removed. Iron works exactly the same as Chrome, and there are some tricks for getting all your Chrome add-ons (like Ghostery and Pop-up blocker) to work with Iron. Check it out here: srware.net/en/software_srware_iron.php End of Part 2 (Intermediate)
