How to make Nigeria work – Tambuwal, govs The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal; Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State and his Kano State counterpart, Alhaji Musa Kwankwaso, have urged Nigerians to be patriotic and united, irrespective of their political affiliations, to make the country great. According to a statement made available to our correspondent in Ado Ekiti on Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary to Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Olayinka Oyebode, the trio, who were recipients of the Zik Prize in Leadership, spoke after the conferment of the awards on them in Lagos on Saturday. Other recipients of the prize are Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan; the Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, Mr. Reginald Ihejiahi; and Chairman, Nigeria Population Commission, Chief Festus Odumegwu. The statement said the awards were presented to the recipients by Chief Ernest Shonekan and Chief Sunny Odogwu. Tambuwal received his award in the Public Service category; governors Fayemi, Kwankwaso and Uduaghan received the prize in the Good Governance category, while Odumegwu and Ihejiahi won awards in the Professional Leadership category. Fayemi, who spoke on behalf of the recipients of the awards, said Nigeria could still rise again if all concerned could rededicate themsleves to the task of building a virile nation, which would be the envy of all. He said, “To build a new Nigeria of the citizens’ dream requires that all stakeholders, regardless of their political leanings, work together in unity and with renewed patriotism. “When one considers the foresight of the first Nigerian President, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, with other patriots in the pursuit of the nation’s greatness, there is a tendency to despair as one reflects on the trajectory that Nigeria has been through.” Fayemi pledged that the recipients would rededicate themselves to the struggle for a just and prosperous Nigeria, while also working with and for the people to make the country greater. Uduaghan, on his part, called on governments at all levels in the country to depend less on oil revenue and harness their vast resources to develop their economies to ensure speedy development of the country. He said, “Nigeria can be bouyant without being solely dependent on oil revenue, as all states have vast mineral and other resources, from which they can develop and generate revenue. Culled: Punchng
