How we cut the pineapple. (Remember, the commercial pineapples will yield more than this little baby, but will not be as sweet unless you purchase the golden pineapples. 1-need a good sharp knife, cutting board and wet cloth. 2-cut the top off (if you want to start your own plant leave at least 1/2 inch of meat. 3-cut the bottom of the pineapple. 4-slice the side of the pineapple (not too deep, just enough to remove the skin) 5-notice the direction of the eyes that remain behind. One direction will have straight lines in a swirl direction. The other direction will have lines but not as straight. Remove the eyes by cutting a V along the line. (You can sneak a taste of the pineapple by eating these cuts - this one is very sweet) 6-once the swirls are done, put the pineapple its bottom and slice it in half. 7-place the halves on the cutting board and cut it into wedged slices. 8-at this point you could keep them this way and serve it. We prefer chunks. So... 9-the final step is to cut the slices where the V cut is and voila you have delicious chunks. Remember, when choosing a pineapple be Sure to get one that is as yellow as possible. Once it has been harvested it will not ripen any more (like banana and tomatoes do) If you want to try to grow your own pineapple plant, take the top of the plant that you cut off. Score the meaty part (yellow) into a grid. (Like a checkerboard) and place it into a pie plate sized dish. Fill it with water and keep checking to see if tiny roots begin to appear. It will look like a tiny beard. When the roots have started, place it into a pot with potting soil and water it occasionally. Pineapples dont like a lot of water. Good luck!
