How we got rid of idiot box-TV... When my elder daughter came to 10th standard, we decided to disconnect TV. It was very hard decision with enough resistance from my daughter herself. After a month or so, family started to come to terms with life without TV. It helped improve our reading. Today my same daughter is in third year college. Not only she scored well in 10th and 12th, I could complete some good books and 4 autobiographies of some respected celebrities. Just two months back, we tool TV connection again. But, I could see that family is hardly interested in watching TV for than half an hour. Personally our world did not fall apart due to absence of TV. Rather it opened up new world of possibilities. Now the brain in hard wired not to watch TV. Of late smart phones are taking toll, I know. But, we are waiting for the next daughter to reach at the critical juncture in her academic career. Hope we get success again. I am personally not against TV, if it is used judiciously. But, the question is of maintaining that restraint and discipline. Things to learn hard ways... As we did try and succeed...good luck.
