How whack is it to propose that we no longer need to acknowlege or seek the Holy Spirits power and promptings JUST because OTHERS have misused and misapplied the Spirits name and nature. What if I told you that Im giving up on Jesus because so many others have abused His name and used it to manipulate, hurt or mislead others? You, no doubt, would tell me to NOT throw out the baby with the bathwater. You would say that the worst mistake I could ever make would be to blame Jesus for these other peoples mistakes. You would point out to me a plethora of saints who HAVE followed Jesus teachings and represent His name in a spirit of love and honor. You would tell me that Jesus, in fact, warned of many false or misguided followers who would come to us claiming many things in His name, but that they in reality had never truly encountered Him in their hearts. Of these, He says, I never knew you. You would also quote me these verses no doubt: For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect ? God forbid: yea , let God be true , but every man a liar Romans 3:3-4. Well if you would do this, then why oh why would we not use the exact same reasoning with the Holy Spirit ? Seriously, I hear people say all the time that they dont want to hear anything about the Holy Spirit BECAUSE so many others from the lunatic fringe have wrongly quoted the Spirits leading as the source of their brutally wrong beliefs. So what do we do? Ditch the reality of Holy Spirit altogether? Ditch the goal of being Spirit-led in all our ways? Ditch the Spirit as an embarrassing myth by rolling our eyes in scoffing disgust and unbelief EVERY time somebody claims that the Holy Spirit illuminated, empowered or blessed them on some matter? Surely not! Talk about looking the proverbial gift horse in the cosmic mouth! The Holy Spirit is the gift of Gods indwelling presence. Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ Himself come to reside with an in us. Holy Spirit is called the promise of the Father in both Luke and Acts, the promise for which all the Old Testament saints were waiting. Holy Spirit leads us into all truth, equips us with all spiritual giftings, and imbues us with power from on high to live the life of flawless love. Dont you dare buy into the propaganda campaign many are waging today which belittles the Holy Spirits central role in our lives. Holy Spirit IS God. Holy Spirit is the touch point of Heaven and earth, a touch point which lives within you. So, if you wont exile Jesus from your souls core because of how OTHERS have mis-quoted, mis-applied, and misrepresented Him, then dont exile the Holy Spirit either for how OTHERS have likewise misused His name. That would truly be the ultimate tragic case of throwing out the spiritual baby with the bath water. The sons of God are those led by the Spirit of God-- and led, and led, and led, and led. Romans 8:14. Prioritizing the promptings and power of the Holy Spirit is our first, best destiny.
