The ritual killing of mammals and birds, to the Jewish is known as a religious ritual “Shechita” and is present in human civilization from the very beginning, in almost all major religious systems. The thin line which separates ritual slaughters of animals, animal sacrifice and religious worship is irrelevant for the suffering of the animals, although it is very important to people. Animal sacrifice and ritual slaughter very likely originates from the time when the first animals were tamed by force, or in other words, when people began to tame animals in their near surroundings. Every slaughter had to be accompanied by a ritual, because every dish was sacrificed for one of the many gods. Pagan priests attended the rites of worship and monitored these policies.
