Howdy Friends! ~ Felt like sharing scene from, Well Have The Summer, ~~ ~ They strolled among the commotion that is rodeo, chatted with long-time friends, said howdy to some new ones, then found a comfortable spot in the shade away from most of the activity to watch the youth calf roping. Sam spread a blanket, and Mary fell asleep with her head nestled in his lap. Too soon, Barbara ran up to them, out of breath. “They’re going to start the race in fifteen minutes. I’m gonna race Cactus. Morgan’s already warming up on Ruth.” She started for the barn, then yelled back over her shoulder, “Better get with it, Mr. Holt.” Mary opened one eye and smiled. “Well, Mr. Holt, I suppose you’d better do as your young challenger advises.” He stroked her hair, touched his finger to her lips. “Reckon I’d rather stay put and snuggle my gal. I’ve run plenty of races in my day.” “I could cuddle here all day myself, but we’d have a very disappointed young girl on our hands…What a delightful young lady she’s turning out to be. Keeps me stepping to stay ahead of her.” Sam pulled her tight, “I love you, Mary. You’ve always been my special gift from God. You make my life...” She put her lips to his ear. “I guess God knew what I needed, too.”
