Howdy everyone, I thought I would get in early this week for the market update and let you know some insider info... Bananas are well and truly back in price and anyone selling higher than $4:99kg for premium fruit is a thief. South Australian Cherries are dominating the market with the chains leading the way driving prices down with questionable fruit, the local fruit is slow, expensive and hard to get hold of currently. Our local strawberry grower has asked for support and wants the 3 for $5 to continue and I have obliged this should be the last weekend....I think! Chinese cabbage looks like it is starting to go to seed so only buy halves that way you wont get any nasty surprise, Red cabbage is short and green cabbage around the markets looks like its been shot gunned it is extremly hard to control bugs this time of year. Cut your broccoli and inspect it underneath for grubs give the florrets a good wash we get ours from Albany this time of year so no grubbies at Drovers. Local Asparagus is still coming through in good volumes but I would say that by Christmas the locals would of finished and we will use Victorian.. There is an abundance of stone Fruit arriving daily in the Markets purchase prices range from $1:20 kg to $5 kg, I dont see the point in purchasing fruit that eats poorly so when you come to Drovers my premium fruit is of the highest quality grown by the best growers. Today a group of people came in for a sticky and were mortified at prices they were openly hostile and openly critical, its upsetting for both parties, its upsetting for Andrew and myself because of the lengths we go to in obtaining the correct produce and its upsetting for them because they dont understand....theres nothing you can do about it other than wait for them to walk over the red squared area that says Special and once we have most of them in...we hit the eject button hidden at the back... If your a Fuji eater Ive got some beauties in at the moment, Pears are moving up but by mid January the new season Bartlets will start so the pain wont be for long. Apricots are a funny one the Chains have South Australian Apricots...dont put one any where near your mouth your taste buds will become permantley traumitised yuky poo...dont do it very nasty......buy local ones deep orange in colour with a redish blush num num. Bullidas and Castletons will start soon they are more of a yellow Apricot and after Chrissy the Trevats will start they ripen from the inside very nummy its a bit early to be buying the Yellow Varieties at the moment. On Thursday Im very excited I will be the first to have Sweet Celebration grapes they are seedless very sweet and very local... Thats it for the week dont be shy coming forward and asking any questions......This is the Drover saying Zippidy Doo Da with aspoon full of sugar.... Drover........
