However we try to delineate Filipino from Chinese, we will fail - TopicsExpress

However we try to delineate Filipino from Chinese, we will fail because much of what is Filipino is actually Chinese. Our culture is replete with Chinese connotations from our food to the way we communicate. Our heroes were one way or another of Chinese blood. Rizal, our national hero, had Sino-blood running in his veins. Our present dear chief executive, Noynoy Aquino, is at least 12.5 percent Chinese. To top it all, wherever we turn our gaze, we see the presence of Chinese before us from the mundane nuts and bolts to the behemoth buses plying our roads. One will be reminded of the cartoon flick Wall-e where people grow obese from sheer inactivity because robots are doing everything for them. Our country is turning into a kind of Wall-e where Filipinos are getting pampered because everything big and small is supplied by the Chinese 24/7 factories. So that from the start of any diplomatic row with China, we know our country is just bluffing because we know we can not retaliate or threaten military and economic sanction against China. It will just turn off the valve and we will realize where we stand - on top of a dead island made only alive by a lifeline to Beijing.
