Clay Mauritson is one of Ian’s closest friends and one of Zinfandels biggest wine-making names! The partnership provided the opportunity to make great wine together, and they focused on the Madrone Spring Vineyard in Rockpile, an unclaimed jewel inside of the Mauritson Family portfolio of vineyard holdings (2.2 Acres). Blackburns ambition is to elevate its vineyards name and the Rockpile designation with a wine that is focused on being the best” in Zinfandel without compromise. Madrone Spring brings that type of quality to the sorting table and features an optimal Southwestern exposition at 1100-1500 in elevation with naturally low vigor, and resulting low yields. The fruit has an intense signature Rockpile character and only pedigree french oak is used to produce healthy wines that are built to age and to elevate the category in minds and palates of the consumer. This wine is made to show the true potential of Zinfandel, the Rockpile AVA Appellation, Clay’s wine-making prowess and Ian’s blending ability. 2009 - 95 points (sold out), 2010 - 93 points (sold out), 2011 - 96 points (limited).
