Hoy a dos años de su partida Ismenia Nanan Slate McCoy _______________________________________ Ismenia Yadith Slate McCoy, better known as “Nanan”, was born (and grew up) in the city of Bluefields, Nicaragua on the 16th of October, of the year 1990. She had a happy childhood among her parents, brothers, sisters, family and friends. Her passion was enjoying nature by which she was surrounded. The beautiful Bluefields’ Bay, the warm Caribbean sun and the bounty and beauty of the tropical rainforest. She did her primary and secondary studies in the Moravian School. During high school, she excelled as a member of the Moravian Junior High School Band as of 2003 when she began her studies until 2007 when she graduated along with her brother Norman Slate McCoy. In 2009 she enrolled in the Bluefields Indian and Caribbean University (BICU) where she studied Tourism. During her higher education studies at BICU she became a prominent member of the ballet group where she grew to become an accomplished dancer. Through her talent and gift she helped to make known to the region and Nicaragua as whole the depth, and richness of the tradition and culture of the peoples of the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua. Her dance and laughter resonated in Bluefields, Corn Island, Esteli, Leon, Managua, Bilwi and many other parts of the country. Ismenia Yadith Slate McCoy “Nanan”, was unexpectedly taken away from us and died peacefully at the early age of 21 years, 7 months and 17 days. We often heard people saying how their life was impacted in one way or another by “Nanan”. “Nanan”, will be remembered for her radiant smile, her loving way of being, and her contagious personality. We loved her dearly and she will be greatly missed... May her life continue to be an example to us all.
