Hrafn Sveinbjarnarson he was a medieval leader and goði from Iceland in the thirteenth century, was a doctor and had an important role during the Icelandic civil war, historical event known as Sturlungaöld. He belonged to the Seldælir family clan , was the son of Sveinbjörn Bárðarson who was also known for his medical arts. He had his farm in the city of Hrafnseyri, Arnarfjörður. He also made a pilgrimage to Rome, and during his journey back to Norway went through France and Italy. During his trip he studied healing techniques, especially at the University of Salerno, Italy. On his return to Iceland, he married and settled in Eyri. Hrafn was so hospitable and generous and never refused anyone a medical service between Breiðafjörður Arnarfjörður and at no charge. However, Hrafn came into dispute with Thorvaldur Snorrason Vatnsfirðingur after many armed clashes between the two sides, was finally captured and beheaded on March 4, 1213 His story is collected in its own saga: Hrafns Sveinbjarnarsonar saga. The wife of Hrafn was Hallkatla Einarsdóttir with whom he had many descendants, although her children were young when he was killed: Sveinbjörn (. N 1200) and Krákur (. N 1203), the latter avenged his father burning Thorvaldur inside his farm in 1228. Both brothers fought against Sturla Sighvatsson in the battle of Örlygsstaðir but were killed after the conflict.
