Huang Di Nei Jing: Chapter 36 – Acupuncture in the Treatment of Malaria Qi Bo stated, “Malaria conditions that involve the foot taiyang/bladder channel will cause back pain, heaviness in the head, cold chills over the spine, then severe fever. When the fever ceases, there is perspiration. This type of malaria is difficult to remedy. One should acupuncture by bloodletting at weizhong (UB-40). Foot shaoyang/gallbladder malarial conditions cause extreme fatigue. The chills and fever are not as severe, but there is an aversion to people; in fact, people frighten the patient. The fever lasts longer than the chills. There is also profuse sweating. One should acupuncture points on the foot shaoyang. (Many thanks to Maoshing Ni for his translation, elucidation, explanation!)
