Hugh Masekela, the South African music legend, comes to the - TopicsExpress

Hugh Masekela, the South African music legend, comes to the National Concert Hall for his only performance in Ireland this year, he plays Tuesday, 21st October National Concert Hall Dublin. Hugh Masekela is universally acknowledged as the essence of South African music and one of the world’s all-time great horn players. His voice has long spoken out in his country’s struggle for civil rights, while his soaring, joyful trumpet brims with warmth and bristles with elements of township jazz, hip-hop and funk.. Hugh Masekela and his group will be supported by Tig Linn, an outstanding group of Irish and Nigerian musicians based in Dublin.Tig Linn is a group of seven Irish and Nigerian musicians based in Dublin, writing original songs in Yoruba and English and drawing from both the Irish and Nigerian traditions. The group grew out of a larger, looser collective of African and Irish musicians in 2011 and has used its music in support of many causes. It was partly this interest in social justice that prompted Mavis Staples to choose them as support act for her World Masters performance at the National Concert Hall in 2012, but that wasn’t the only reason. Tig Linn is simply a great live act! The group has played at Electric Picnic, Body & Soul, Castlepalooza, The Grand Social, Whelan’s and The Village, among others. Check Tig Linn out here!
