Human Powered Helicopter flight. This week a team at Toronto university won the “Igor I. Sikorsky Competition” by building a man-powered helicopter and flying their machine “Atlas” within a nominal 10mx10m cube, at a height of 3m for over a minute. The American Helicopter Society set the challenge in 1980, and it had seemed impossible—until now! The flight requirements consist of hovering for one minute while maintaining controlled flight within a 10-meter cube. During this time, the lowest part of the machine must momentarily exceed 3 meters above the ground... DaVinci would be hovering in his mausoleum at this news. youtube/watch?v=99p_wh6p4OY
