Human rights activists, who claim to support Basarwa, protested - TopicsExpress

Human rights activists, who claim to support Basarwa, protested outside an anti-poaching conference in London yesterday where President Ian Khama was attending the meeting. Survival International says the protesters wanted to highlight the impact of a hunting ban on Basarwa. It accuses the Botswana government of persecuting Basarwa of the CKGR, in the name of wildlife conservation by stopping them from hunting in the game reserve. The protestors chanted slogans and carried placards reading-Bushmen hunters are not poachers. Khama attended the meeting alongside Prince Charles, Prince William, and the leaders of Chad, Gabon and Tanzania. Survival’s Director Stephen Corry says President Khama should not hide the persecution of Basarwa behind the mask of conservation. He added that to ban Basarwa from hunting while at the same time opening up the reserve to fracking and mining is sheer hypocrisy.
