Humanity : Futility and/or Absurdity Philosophers and scientists - TopicsExpress

Humanity : Futility and/or Absurdity Philosophers and scientists have endeavoured to (re)define, (de/re)reconstruct the multifaceted fabric of the human being from times immemorial. Needless to assert that humanity has tremendously evolved and progressed. Human beings, throughout this process, have been shuttling between the prerequisites of Reason, Body and Spirit. This axiomatic triad sometimes complete and, in many others, antagonistically outdo each other. Humanity, as a matter of fact, is distinctively endowed with Reason and critical thinking. Humans, therefore, act on, react to and interact with different societal, political and economic phenomena. This attribute of Reason evidently loses ground and momentum for the body and spirit. Humans commit heinous sins against themselves and against the other species. Wars resulting from socioeconomic, sociopolitical or sociocultural abysses and miscommunications. Terror, bloodsheds, ‘the survival-for-the-fittest’ often become the rule. Human advances in science and technology have not deterred, rather sometimes spurred, rivalry, callousness and xenophobic affiliations and beliefs. What has stirred these inhuman(e) conducts has proven to be a mystery. Humanity is believed to be victimized by the trait that makes it most human: reason and mind. Having relentlessly stood firm natural powers, humans have availed the mind to create a soberly equitable and all-inclusive context for life and survival. Alas, technology and inventions have turned against humanity more than they serve it. The newly widespreading devices such as phones and computers have further alienated and stripped humans off from humanity; more people have become asocial, reckless, lazy, dependent and more receptive…on things they have themselves manipulated and brought to existence. Modern life can be described as being entangled to the neck in futility and absurdity. It has become meaningless, trenchantly unbearable and thus ‘killing us softly’. Fellow humans need to urgently revisit their lifestyles and perceptions. Communication, adrift from any class, race, and gender-based undertones, is the sole outlet, it seems to me, from chaos, disorderly perturbed universe. Humans, more than ever, should rethink their humanity, otherwise they become prone to futility, absurdity and insanity. Sweet Campus Rabat 1/12/14
