Humanity has fallen victim to a masculine patriarchal outlook on evaluating the superiority of a species. If you value the ability to dominate and destroy more than anything else, then humans are the most superior species on Earth. But if you shed the disgusting manly outlook on the world and evaluate species based on their ability to live in harmony with the ecosystem and with each other, and to not kill for sport, or kill through ecoterrorism, then humans are close to the bottom. Were still better than fleas, ticks, viruses, and many other pests, but were behind most species on this planet. If we assume that an alien life form looking for intelligent life uses the criteria that any intelligent life form lives with its planet in a sustainable manner (as any intelligent life form would), then a look at Earth would not reveal humans to be intelligent life.
