Humans are but ONE species. To date, scientists have catalogued approximately 1.5 million species but speculation is that there are up to 100 million. Even for those of our species who dont even think of animals remember we have only inhabited this planet for apx 200,000 years. Evidence for ancient life stretches back in time to at least 3.5 billion years ago, in the form of single-celled organisms that did not require oxygen. Just imagine extraterrestrials coming to our planet would have never found modern man for most of Earths history! How many extinctions have there been that man has never even been a part of? What I am saying is we must take better care of our species, of our population and how we treat other species because unless we find another planet the next extinction may be our end.
