Humans are much like crabs, those weird looking crustaceans that we devour here in Maryland. Anyone whos been crabbing knows that when youre storing the crabs youve caught in a barrel-like container, you dont need to put a lid on it. Why? Because the other crabs will ensure that none escape. We call it Crabs in a Barrel Syndrome. Its fascinating, really. Every time an ambitious crab thinks hes going to climb out of the barrel and escape to freedom, another crabs beneath him grabs a hold and pulls him back down. Humans unknowingly do the exact same thing. Most people cant stand the idea of other people being happy when they themselves arent. So, they do anything within their power to bring that person back down to their level. If youre overweight and you have overweight friends youve probably experienced this any time youve tried to lose weight. Unfortunately, there are a thousand other scenarios in which this occurs. The good news is that you arent the problem. The problem is them, their selfishness, their insecurities, and their low self-esteem. All you can do is pray for them and keep doing what youre doing. As a wise philosopher once said, Haters gonna hate.
