Humility Required God created me to be a student of a broad spectrum of learning. On my journey there have been a number of topics where I once spouted conviction in an authoritative tone where Ive later had to admit that I had been very wrong. One of the prominent areas of my embarrassment has been my un-compromised assertion that our national government has Christian roots. The pilgrims and the first settlers were Christ centered for sure. But, by the time of the American Revolution, loyalties had decisively shifted away from Christ and to the philosophy of Thomas Paine. His groupies were the likes of Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Franklin. Paine hated Christianity and the Bible and there is sound evidence that the founding fathers did too. You might complain, what about the historical proofs stated by men like David Barton. One of his books has recently been shelved by a Christian publisher on the basis of too many errors and blatant exaggerations. That describes my 72 years of observing Conservative Christianity. Hyperbole overrules commitment to truth anytime there is a one-ups-sonship to be made.
