Hundreds of protesters confronted US President Barack Obama on Thursday during his visit to Los Angeles, California, calling on him to address the humanitarian crises in Gaza and at the US border with Mexico, Press TV reports. Protesters gathered outside the Los Angeles Technical College where Obama was attending a Democratic Party fundraising event and gave a speech on the economy, Press TVs correspondent Ross Frasier reports from Los Angeles. Los Angeles police officers prevented the protesters from getting close to the event. But, protesters say even if President Obama could hear them, they doubt he would listen. Obama’s speech marked the end of a 3-day visit to the West Coast, which included stops in Seattle, Washington and San Francisco, California. Protesters say they’re upset that Obama has come to California but is ignoring the humanitarian crisis at the border with Mexico and is rather focused on fundraising efforts. Ron Gochez with Union del Barrio says President Obama should spend less time raising money and more time on fixing the border crisis that his administration helped create. “He’s here to fundraise with Hollywood celebrities. We think that’s disrespectful,” Gochez told Press TV’s correspondent. “US foreign policy has really created the misery and poverty in Central America that has led to the migration and led to the current problems.” Protesters also called on the president to withdraw all US support from Israel and put a stop to the Zionist regime’s genocidal attacks on the innocent people of Gaza. “These are war crimes. These are actually crimes against humanity. We are here to demand for President Obama to stand for the immigrant children and the children of Gaza,” said Ahlam Muhtaseb, professor at California State University, San Bernardino. [Daniela Garcia, an organizer with the Todo Poder al Pueblo Collective] said, Obama is “escalating the wars. He is funding Israel’s massacre of the Palestinian people.” She added that the US president is “not on the side of people and he is not on the side of resistance.” Israeli warplanes and tanks have been pounding numerous sites inside the besieged Gaza Strip and killing innocent residents of the impoverished Palestinian enclave over the past 18 days. More than 830 Palestinians have been killed and over 5,200 wounded since the Israeli military first launched its onslaught on the Palestinian enclave on July 8.
