Hundreds pay homage to CPM leader Ananda Pathak SILIGURI, 29 NOV: Hundreds of people including leaders belonging to other political parties including Hill-based Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha and Communist Party of Revolutionary Marxists today paid homage to veteran CPI-M leader Ananda Pathak, who passed away yesterday. He was 84. The CPI-M state secretary Mr Biman Bose came here yesterday to pay tribute Pathak, who was elected as Darjeeling MP thrice and former Rajya Sabha member. Mr Bose along with party leaders across north Bengal and other political party leaders joined the last journey of Pathak from Darjeeling district CPI-M party office on Hill Cart Road to burning ghat on the bank of Mahananda in Siliguri. Though Mr Bose was scheduled to attend party programme in Malda, he came here to pay last respect even at burning ghat and left for Kolkata by air. Paying respect to Pathak Mr Biman Bose said: “Ananda Pathak was one of the founders of communist party in the Hills. He joined politics as follower of another legend party leader Ratan Lal Bramhin in the Hills. He did a lot for organizational base in the Hills and to maintain communal harmony and peace in the Hills and plains during Gorkhaland movement even as agitators set his house on fire. Considering the political situation in the Hills and plains our present leaders should follow his way of life,” Mr Bose said. sns
