Huronia Class Action - further updated information: As we confirmed earlier the Huronia Regional Centre Fairness Hearing will be held on Tuesday, December 3rd 2013, starting at 10 am. It will take place at 330 University Avenue, on the Fifth Floor in Courtroom 5 (this is the same room where the settlement agreement was announced on September 17th.) Please let other people know, especially those who dont use email... This building is on the West side of University Avenue, just North of Queen Street. The front door on University Ave is not wheelchair accessible. The accessible door is at the back - off the walkway that is a continuation of Simcoe Street. Please allow extra time there, because an attendant must operate the stairlift - although it has been requested that someone be on duty by 9:45. The closest subway stop is Osgoode. The closest accessible subway stop is Queens Park, a few blocks north. This is just a few blocks from the Toronto downtown bus station at Bay and Dundas. Here is what is supposed to happen next Tuesday December 3rd: First, the lawyers will tell the judge why they think she should approve the Settlement Agreement they signed on September 17th. There are at least 15 people who have objected to that agreement, and they will each have the opportunity to speak to the judge for 5 minutes. The judge will meet later - just with the lawyers - to decide whether the address lists of class members are correct enough and whether the claim form and letters are ready to be sent out. Only then will the timeframe and process for making claims begin. There is another court date set - February 24, 2014 - when the judge will decide what the lawyers should be paid.
