Hurricane Edouard is maintaining its strength today over the North Atlantic Ocean. Its centered about 1350 miles west of Fayal Island in the Western Azores as of 11 a.m. EDT/AST, moving toward the northeast. Maximum sustained winds are 90 mph - a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Gradual weakening is expected to begin tonight, followed by rapid weakening late Thursday. Edouard is expected to lose hurricane intensity on Thursday. Swells from Edouard will affect portions of the U.S. East Coast north of Florida beginning today. These swells will likely cause life-threatening rip currents for the next couple of days.
