#HurricaneAna Update: Updates on Branch Events & Programs, Friday, October 17, 1:15 pm The National Weather Service has posted tropical storm watches for Oahu, Maui and Kauai counties and surrounding waters. A tropical storm watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, generally within 48 hours. At 11 am today, the Central Pacific Hurricane Center forecasted that the center of Ana is expected to pass about 115 miles southwest of the Big Island Friday night and about 115 miles southwest of Oahu and Kauai Saturday night and Sunday. Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 90 miles. Forecasters said the storm should be far enough south that winds will not reach tropical storm strength on the main Hawaiian islands. At this time, we plan to keep our Y Branches and programs open and operating as scheduled with the following exceptions: The YMCA Youth and Government training on Saturday, October 18, is cancelled. Next training will be as scheduled on Saturday, October 25. The Atherton Y has cancelled its two excursions: Ho’olou Aina (Kalihi Valley Nature Preserve) Community Work Day: Saturday, October 18, 7:30 am – 2:30 pm Explore the North Shore Event: Sunday, October 19, 8 am – 5 pm Kanoelani Elementary School Fun Fair on Saturday, October 18, has been cancelled – so our YMCA A+ staff will not be participating in this event. The Kaimuki-Waialae Y Teen Haunted House Build-Out and Sleepover originally scheduled for Saturday, October 18, 5 pm to Sunday, October 19, 9:30 a.m. has been changed to Saturday, October 18, 9 am – 3 pm. However, keep in the mind, the track and intensity of the storm is still subject to change so please be sure to ask your members, program participants and volunteers to check our website and social media sites for updates: Website: ymcahonolulu.org/ Facebook: https://facebook/YMCAofHonolulu Twitter: https://twitter/ymcahonolulu And please stay tuned to your local news and Central Pacific Hurricane Center (prh.noaa.gov/cphc/) and Hawaii State Civil Defense (scd.hawaii.gov/) for information about emergency preparations and weather.
