Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Monday accused Dr Farooq Abdullah of being responsible for Muhammad Maqbool Bhat’s execution in 1984 and the chief minister Omar Abdullah for Afzal Guru’s hanging on February 9, 2013. “Dr Farooq Abdullah was responsible for hanging of M Maqbool Bhat by signing the documents and Omar Abdullah lied in the case of Afzal Guru by saying that he did not know about the hanging of Afzal Guru. The fact is that his suggestion was sought much earlier and he had said that the same should be done as soon as possible so that, according to him, the tourist season doesnt get affected, said a spokesman of Hurriyat (G) quoting Geelani as saying. “Hanging and burying M Maqbool Bhat and M Afzal Guru in jail premises has exposed New Delhi’s claims of being the largest democracy. The martyrdom of Muhammad Maqbool Bhat is a milestone in the freedom struggle of Kashmir and the martyrdom of M Afzal Guru has further strengthened the struggle. Unless the mortal remains of Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru are returned, we will continue to raise our voices,” Geelani said. Meanwhile, Hurriyat (G) said it is organising a day-long seminar at Hyderpora on February 12, under the chairmanship of Syed Ali Shah Geelani to pay tribute to the martyrs. The spokesman said Hurriyat district President for Anantnag Mir Hafeezullah was released today after long detention while district president Shopian M Yousuf Falahi continues to languish in Mattan Jail, despite the completion of PSA slapped on him.” The spokesman expressed happiness over his release. The spokesman has demanded immediate release of Masrat Aalam, Ameer Hamza, M Yousuf Falahi and Shakeel Ahmad Bhat.
