Hyenas Up-Close and Personal Who didnt see the Lion King, even I have seen it more than once, just a few weeks ago on my trip to NYC, I took my kids to watch the Broadway musical. As always we fell in love with Simba (the lion cub) and hated Shenzi and Ed (the hyenas) they were conniving little devils. Imagine how flabbergasted I was when I discovered that the hyenas are nothing like what I have learned...they really got bad PR :) During my stay at the Kevin Richardson sanctuary, I document not only the lions but the hyenas as well. For the past two days I have been fortunate enough to photo-document an amazing research (more details will be posted soon) and learn about the hyenas behavior. Not only is this animal very smart with learning capabilities it is not that ugly either. As seen in two of the photos taken by researcher Jennifer Vonk the hyenas are very curious animals, they approached me as I was photographing them to sniff and look. Lets not get confused the hyena is a wild animal, it is a predator, so throughout the whole time Kevin was right there with us conducting the research and looking out for everyone since they have a special unique bond with him. #hyena #africa #wildlife
