I Am Kloot - From There To Here OST – By Peter Bowker I Am Kloot have long provided the soundtrack to my real life so maybe it was inevitable that one day they would provide the soundtrack to my fictional one . . . I first came across them when I saw the remarkable video for their song, ʻ Proof ʼ featuring a mesmeric Christopher Eccleston. A bit of digging and I found they were mining the same creative seam as me - confusion, emotion, masculinity, love, loss and all stopping points inbetween. The struggle to express the things that really matter filtered through the unexpected poetry of Northern conversation. I had already raided their back catalogue for a previous TV drama of mine called Monroe. Should you ever find yourself performing brain surgery then take it from me that the opening bars of Radiation are the perfect accompaniment. They are a band that understand pictures, their songs full of visual imagination. As soon as they were suggested I knew they would be right for ʻ From There To Here. The most exciting part of the process was that I got to hear stuff that was newly worked, incomplete, but still recognizably Kloot. It was a privilege to witness their creative process up close. Like watching a magician explain a trick and ending up more confused, not less. At what stage do you decide that a melodica is going to be the perfect fit? That whistling fits the bill for a scene of romantic longing? Where to make the switch from haunting, shy melody to percussion that drives forward with criminal intent? How to make music that occupies that unlikely territory where Cowboy movies meet French romance? They have provided a soundtrack that complemented and enhanced each dramatic moment. They have provided a soundtrack that is a character in its own right. I knew they would give us something special. And they did. And here it is. Peter Bowker – Writer - From There To Here, Monroe, Occupation, Eric and Ernie, Marvellous.
