I Am Lauren I am in a wheelchair. You may look down on me. Not because you mean to but because you just dont see, That though I do not smile at you And cant sing you a song, I still long to hold your hand and feel like I belong. I long to run and jump and play, Like other children do. But since I cant Id like to take some time To sit with you. To look into your eyes And feel you really look in mine. To feel that sweet connection Makes me feel that I am fine. To hear you REALLY speak to me, No pity, guilt or fear. Please know that I do understand— I really am in here. To feel you touch my hand or rub my arm Or kiss my cheek. Some people wouldnt think of it And make a quick retreat. But theres no need to flee from me. Ill do no harm to you. I actually believe I could teach you.... A thing or two. Just look at me and try to see The Lauren that is true. Youll miss me if you focus just on Things that I cant do. There is so much that stands between The whole wide world and me. I wish that wasnt so but Its the way it has to be. We cannot run a race, I cannot beat you at a game. Id love to tell a joke but I cant even say my name. But from my chair down here Ive been observing you above. Hey! I know what I can do as well as you!! Yes! I CAN LOVE.
