I Am Trayvon Call To Action Campaign In many places across America, people of Afrikan descent are calling for action on behalf of Trayvon Martin. We clearly understand that an injustice was committed against our son and brother, Trayvon. (As have the many injustices that happen every 28 hours in America that results in the loss of life by an African descendant at the hands of the police or quasi-police forces.) The Chicago Chapter of the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in American (N’COBRA), suggest that an action movement be initiated to work toward justice in the name of Trayvon Martin. This movement could be entitled the I Am Trayvon Call To Action Campaign – I Am Trayvon CTAC. Really it would be hundreds or even thousands of actual campaigns for justice invoked by and dedicated to the memory and life of Trayvon Martin. In a particular city, the name Trayvon can be substituted to one of the fallen of your city. The emphasis is on action in the name of someone who can not fight for justice for themselves and who’s injustice is symbolic of our historical plight here in America. For instance, in Chicago we have developed three I Am Trayvon CTAC’s around the issue of reparations and restitution: 1. An action campaign to get an amendment to the City’s Slavery Disclosure Ordinance. Currently, corporations simply have to disclose and that is it. Similar to South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission policy, no restitution is mandatory. We want to change that. 2. An action campaign against a local corporation that is guilty of committing racial atrocities against our ancestors. 3. An action campaign against a national/international corporation that is guilty of committing racial atrocities against our ancestors. N’COBRA struggles for reparations; however, we encourage other organizations to create I Am Travon CTAC’s for justice on issues that they have been formed to address. 2013-2023 is being declared the Decade For People of African Descent. Let’s kick this decade off with the initiation of thousands of I Am Trayvon Call To Action Campaigns! Reparations Now!!!
