I GOT MORE THAN I BARGAINED FOR!!! Part 2 by idowuOMISORE Posted on March 17, 2014 WOW! IT WAS INDEED A TIME TO LEARN, UNLEARN AND RE-LEARN. The Lagos Zone 4 Youths Leadership Empowerment Seminar 2014 organized by The Redeemed Christian Church of God in view of the forthcoming LAGOS SHIFT 2014 scheduled for May 1, 2014 at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS). It was brilliantly coordinated by Pastor Wale Oyeniyi, who also gave an explosive presentation on Time Management. He challenged everyone present to use time productively. For me, Pastor Wale Oyeniyi is a God-sent. Since we met February 2009, he has always believed in me and given me platforms. He’s such a unique personality driven by his passion for God, for the Kingdom and supportive of young people. I have compiled learning points from the handout and my jottings from Pastor Wale Oyeniyi’s thrilling and thought-provoking presentation. Time is life. When you waste time, you waste life. Engage time productively; this takes a lot of discipline. The term management is a misnomer. You cannot manage time; you manage the events in your life in relation of time. You may often wish for more time but you only get 24 hours, 1,440 minutes or 86,400 seconds each day. How you use that time depends on skills learned through self-analysis, planning, evaluation and self-control. Be fiercely focused on your goals. Being fierce suggests some level of determination to invest your time and a sense of aggression to fight every distractions that appear on your path to goal attainment. Know how you spend your time, set priorities, use a planning tool, get organized, schedule your time appropriately, delegate, stop procrastinating, manage external time wasters, avoid multi-tasking and stay healthy. Be an early riser: Get off your bed very early, rising before 5:00am is great. If you need ‘’waking aids’’, set alarm on your phone. Upon waking from sleep, spend the first fifteen minutes to reflect. Reflection does not mean praying but thinking through your goals, projects and dreams. Ephesians 3:20 shows the power of thinking and how it affects our outcomes in life. Thinking is planning. Planning is thinking on paper. During reflection, thinking through the day and plan your tasks. Prepare your to-do-list. Those who control the day do not sleep at night. Set your priorities. If you don’t have a goal, you can’t score. In life, only scorers are celebrated. Identify what is urgent, important in your life. Identify which events are high priorities or low priorities in life. Watch out for attractive distractions. Unnecessary assignments normally take people away from the path of destiny. Learn to give people appointments. Leaders prioritize existence. If you are a leader and you cannot account for a day, you are a disaster. Use diaries, time gauges, alarms. It is common to see people using their diaries as note pads for sermons. Use your diaries appropriately to plan your days for maximum achievement. Have a calendar for your life. Have your own schedule. Watch the calls you pick. Don’t move at the slightest sound from your phone. Block uninvited intruders on your time. It is not every call that you pick. Never attend a meeting without agenda. Most meetings waste time. Avoid procrastination like a plague. It is a robber of time. I once read somewhere that procrastination is the graveyard of dreams. Any meeting you call as a leader, ensure you arrive first. Time Management and Goal setting were gripping presentations! Kudos to Pastors Wale Oyeniyi and Dipo Omopariola for pouring out themselves and dishing out deep insights. Goal setters are time investors, no wonder they become pace setters at the end of the day, breaking records and rewriting history for good. Please share this article with your circle of friends.
