I HAVE BEEN WISHING TO SHARE A PRAYER OF SOME KIND WITH ALL MY FRIENDS FROM AMARILLO, but I didn’t really know what it was. I wanted it to be something that felt real to me and very soft and kind. This evening after a long walk in the rain, I sat in my bedroom looking out through bare walnut trees, and I wrote this short song. Then I thought, “Oh, this is it. This is the blessing you were looking for.” I recorded it and accompanied it with some winter wonderland video of myself walking on the quietest road on earth. Walking in that kind of snowfall can quiet your heart and soften your thinking and cause great gratitude to flow forth where there was only noise before. That is what I wish for you this season. Please take the time to breathe, to look at the bare shapes of trees in winter skies, to hear the screech of flickers and the whispers of chickadees and cawing of crows. And also, the voices of the people around you. Within all those sounds there are secrets to a good life, to a gentle way of being on this planet that we have mostly forgotten. It is not lost.
